Former U.S. Rep. Ed Case raised more than $111,800 during the last quarter for his Demo­cratic primary campaign for the U.S. Senate, which put him far behind the pace of his rival, U.S. Rep. Mazie Hirono, who raised more than $624,350.

Case has raised more than $467,000 for his campaign since last spring, while Hirono has collected about $1.5 million.

"I said when we started that we’d need at least $1 million through the primary," Case said in a statement. "We’re on track to exceed that, and that’s before we include the upsurge in January contributions as voters focus on their choice and new polls show us leading the primary and the general matchups."

Former Gov. Linda Lingle, the Republican contender for the U.S. Senate, raised more than $1.7 million for the quarter, the first test of her fundraising strength since she announced her campaign in October.
