Community meetings will be held around the state this month on the settlement proposal between the state and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs over disputed ceded-lands claims.
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs said in a news release it will hold a round of meetings to keep beneficiaries informed about the so-called Kakaako land settlement proposal, first announced in November.
Under terms of the settlement, the state and OHA would agree that $200 million represents a reasonable compromise to settle disputed claims. To satisfy the $200 million claim, the state would convey "contiguous and adjacent parcels in Kakaako Makai" near Waterfront Park, including Fisherman’s Wharf. Land would continue to remain under the authority of the Hawaii Community Development Authority and would continue to be under HCDA’s rules and zoning.
The agreement is subject to public meetings and legislative approval.
