The Hawaii football team went into overtime to land a speedy cornerback.
Ne’Quan Phillips of Miami’s Southridge High said he has decided to accept a football scholarship from the Warriors.
Phillips completed his 48-hour recruiting trip Saturday, and said he and his mother will sign the national letter of intent tonight.
The first day of the monthlong signing period was this past Wednesday. The Warriors reserved some scholarships for three players who visited this weekend.
Phillips became the 21st member of the Warriors’ 2012 recruiting class. The other two prospects who visited are leaning toward becoming Warriors.
"It feels just like home over here," said Phillips, who was raised in Miami. "I like the people, and the way they show hospitality. I really like the coaching staff. The players seem really cool."
Phillips said he is 5 feet 10 and 175 pounds.
He said he also received offers from Memphis and Florida International.
Phillips said he likes the Warriors’ potential, and wants to have a role in them getting "over the hump."
Earlier, the Warriors received signed commitments from two other cornerbacks — Ronald Fields of the College of San Mateo (Calif.) and Anthony Pierce of Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School.
