Hiker rescued after a night lost on Maui
A 75-year-old woman spent Saturday night lost in the La Perouse area of South Maui.
The woman was hiking with a group on Saturday when they became separated at about 2 p.m. Rescue personnel were called at about 8 p.m., and it was decided to begin a search at first light.
At 5:45 a.m. Sunday the Maui Fire Department began a search for the missing hiker. She was located just before 8 a.m. and transported by helicopter to a parking area where her husband was waiting.
Rescue officials said the woman was in "good shape" following the ordeal.
Commercial kitchen gets state approval
Kauai vendors who sell food at the Anahola Marketplace now have a certified commercial kitchen to prepare it, the nonprofit Homestead Community Development Corp. said Friday.
The Anahola Marketplace Kitchen received its certification from the state Department of Health to open and serve the public.
"This is a major milestone for the Anahola Marketplace and for the people of Kauai," Lorraine Rapozo, an HCDC board member, said in a news release. "Whether a vendor makes and sells food product at the marketplace, or is a mobile vendor accessing the kitchen for fresh water, this commercial kitchen is very important to Kauai."
The marketplace is open Wednesday through Sunday with a dozen vendors selling fruit, crafts and clothing. With the health certification completed, HCDC will finalize its policies and procedures to make the kitchen available for use.
