Roller derby opens Sunday
The South Shore Sirens take on the Leahi Diamond Dolls in Sunday’s Pacific Roller Derby opener at Palama Settlement Gym.
The event begins at 2 p.m. and is part of the eighth Girl Fest Hawaii Festival, which raises awareness of violence against women and girls. General admission is $7, $5 for students and free for children 12 and under. The gym is at 810 North Vineyard Blvd.

Swamp Romp at Marine Corps Base
The 18th Swamp Romp, a 5-mile team obstacle race through the swamp areas at Marine Corps Base-Hawaii, is scheduled for Feb. 25 at 7 a.m.
The fee for a six-person team is $135 through today, $150 through Wednesday. Packet pickup is next Friday between 3 and 7 p.m. at the Swamp Romp Health, Fitness & Wellness Expo on base. For information, call 254-7590 or go to mccshawaii.com/cgfit.shtml.
Aloha Beach Volleyball starting
Aloha Beach Volleyball, introducing beach volleyball to young athletes, begins its series of free clinics Feb. 25 at Maili Beach Park.
The sessions are open to ages 7-17 and run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Beginning in March, the sessions are on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month through July 28.
The coaching staff includes former Hawaii women’s indoor player Diana McKibbin; West Oahu Volleyball and Campbell High coach Ala Iosefa; and longtime beach player Keoki Shupe.

Regional pool tournaments coming up
TJ’s Sports Bar & Grill will host the Oahu American Poolplayers Association 8- and 9-Ball shootouts, two regional competitions that will qualify six for the national championships in Las Vegas.
The regionals are scheduled for March 3 and 4. Also the Hawaii Regional Jack & Jill Doubles 8-Ball Tournament is set or March 4, with the top team advancing to the national event in Las Vegas in April.
