'HEAL THE HEARTS XIII': Dave Hayakawa, left, joined Michelle Haynes, Brad Coates, Jenn Tokuda and Greg Frey at Coates & Frey's 13th annual "Heal the Hearts" Valentine's Day Ball on Feb. 10 at The Standard. Coates, the author of "Divorce With Dignity," and Frey host the yearly event for friends, colleagues, clients and people who might become clients if their hearts get broken.

VELEZ ROCKS HARD ROCK: Percussionist Gerardo Velez, center, was the surprise guest when Heidi Putnam and General Manager Barry Cales presented their "Anti-Networking VIP Party" Feb. 9 at the Hard Rock Cafe in Waikiki. Velez's musicians, Eric Peterson and Clayton Apilando, performed as a solid, self-contained duo before Velez joined them to rock the Hard Rock with a preview of his work-in-progress musical about his experiences playing Woodstock with Jimi Hendrix.
