Search on for diver missing off Kaena Point
Honolulu Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard rescue personnel were searching Sunday night for a missing scuba diver off Kaena Point.
The man was diving with a group of friends about a mile off Kaena Point, a Coast Guard spokesman said. He was reported missing at about 3:30 p.m. after failing to surface as scheduled.
A Fire Department helicopter and rescue personnel joined search efforts by a Coast Guard helicopter, rescue boat and the cutter Ahi. The search was scheduled to continue through the night.
Motorcyclist dies in H-1 crash near Kalihi
A motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries Sunday night in a crash on the H-1 freeway’s westbound lanes between the Houghtailing and Likelike exits.
Police closed the lanes beginning at School Street to investigate the accident, which was reported at about 8:45 p.m.
The driver of the motorcycle, who reportedly was not wearing a helmet, sustained severe head injuries.
It was not immediately known whether other vehicles were involved.
Visitor hospitalized after nearly drowning
A tourist was in critical condition after an apparent near-drowning Sunday morning at the Turtle Bay Resort.
The man, believed to be in his 60s, was pulled from a hotel pool shortly after noon. CPR was performed until Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived and took him to an area hospital.
