Punahou is the No. 1 seed in Division I of the Hawaiian Airlines/HHSAA Boys Basketball State Championships.
Seedings for both divisions were released Sunday.
The D-I tournament begins on Wednesday with unseeded teams playing at the McKinley and Radford gyms.
The Buffanblu are 24-2 overall and went 11-1 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu to win the title. They will face the Hilo-Moanalua winner on Thursday at 7 p.m. at McKinley Student Council Gymnasium.
Kahuku, which captured the Oahu Interscholastic Association crown on Saturday, drew the No. 2 seed. The Red Raiders (29-9, 16-1 league) will take on the King Kekaulike-Kamehameha winner on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Radford.
Kamehameha-Hawaii (22-5, 13-1 league), champion of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, has the No. 3 seed and will challenge the AOP-Pearl City victor on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Radford.
Interestingly, Kahuku and Kamehameha-Hawaii played twice in nonconference tournaments. Kahuku won 57-53 on Dec. 19 at the ‘Iolani Classic, and KS-Hawaii won 50-42 on Dec. 30 at the St. Francis Merv Lopes Classic.
Maui Interscholastic League winner Baldwin (24-3, 12-0 league) has the No. 4 seed and will meet the Kapolei-Leilehua winner on Thursday at 5 p.m. at McKinley.
The pairings and brackets were determined by basketball coordinators from the five leagues.
Kalaheo, which won the OIA White Conference title on Saturday, is the No. 1 seed in the D-II bracket. The Mustangs (36-6, 15-1 league) have the unusual prospect of being bracketed with an ILH champion, No. 4 seed St. Francis.
Hawaii Prep, which won the BIIF, is the No. 2 seed, and Kapaa is the No. 3 seed.
