Gas prices nationwide hit $3.72; Hawaii tops at $4.32
NEW YORK >> The price of gasoline rose for the 21st straight day on Tuesday. Drivers are now paying an average of $3.72 a gallon nationwide, about 24 cents more than before the streak began. The price of gas has risen 30 cents in a month. The winter surge is being driven primarily by the rising price of oil, which has been above $100 a barrel since Feb. 10 as tensions mount between the West and Iran over its nuclear ambitions.
Gas prices are highest in Alaska, California, New York, Connecticut and Hawaii, which is tops at $4.32 a gallon. Around Hawaii the average price Tuesday in Honolulu was $4.20, in Hilo was $4.49 and in Wailuku was $4.52. Nationwide, gasoline prices are 10 percent higher than a year ago — and at their highest level ever for the end of February.

The Domestic Violence Action Center has announced the following new board members: Michele Kurihara-Klein, legislative specialist for the Hawaii Government Employees Association; Judi Morris, legal counsel for Oceanit Laboratories; Vera J. Wright, income tax manager at Bank of Hawaii; and Suzanne Young, director of programs for the Honolulu Board of Realtors.
The Island Insurance Foundation has donated $25,000 to the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation. The donation will support the work being done at the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific and the hospital’s “Rebuilding Rehab Hospital” $17 million capital campaign.
