Abreu lifts Hilo over Grand Canyon in 13

John Abreu singled in Larry Valdes with no outs in the bottom of the 13th inning Thursday as host Hawaii-Hilo (4-5, 1-4) beat Grand Canyon 5-4 in a PacWest baseball game.

Reliever Casey Bohlmann allowed one run over seven innings to get the win. Grand Canyon is 5-12 and 1-4.

» Marcus Romero went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and Southern Utah scored in the 12th to beat Hawaii Pacific 4-3 Thursday at Hans L’Orange Park. Southern Utah is 1-6; HPU is 10-2.

BYU-Hawaii gets past Chaminade

Jake Dastrup scored 17 points, Bracken Funk added 15 and Jet Chang had 14 as host BYU-Hawaii rallied by Chaminade 76-65 in a PacWest men’s game Thursday. Bennie Murray scored 15 for Chaminade, which led 37-33 at halftime. BYUH is 16-10 and 13-4; Chaminade is 10-14 and 8-9.

» Terrell Mack scored 25 points, and Zachary Wilde had 10 points and 12 rebounds as host Hawaii-Hilo beat Hawaii Pacific 81-73. Hilo is 9-16 and 3-14; HPU is 11-14 and 6-11.

Hopkins helps HPU women topple UH-Hilo

Mana Hopkins had 20 points and 11 rebounds as visiting Hawaii Pacific (17-10, 11-6) beat Hawaii-Hilo 67-64 in a PacWest women’s basketball game Thursday. Hillary Hurley had 26 points and 19 boards for Hilo (13-12 and 10-7).
