UH alumni shine in spring training
Former University of Hawaii third baseman Vinnie Catricala hit his second home run of the spring with the Seattle Mariners, finishing 1-for-4 in a 6-4 win over Texas in a Cactus League game in Peoria, Ariz., on Monday.
Catricala, a 10th-round pick of the Mariners in 2009, is hitting .316 (6-for-19) this spring with three RBIs.
Former Hawaii All-American Kolten Wong, a first-round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals last summer, drove in the game-winning run with a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth of the Cardinals’ 5-4 win over Atlanta on Monday in Jupiter, Fla.
Wong, who laid down a sacrifice bunt as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning, drew a walk in his only other plate appearance this spring.
