Hawaii Advanced Imaging Institute will open at Hale Pawaa in September and will become the final ground-floor tenant at the new medical services building.
Formerly known as Hawaii PET Imaging, the medical imaging center will relocate to 6,700 square feet in the new building at South King and Beretania streets. Its current location is in Waterfront Plaza at Punchbowl and Pohukaina streets.
Officials with Waterfront Plaza owner Pacific Office Properties, based in San Diego, deferred comment to Hawaii Advanced Imaging.
The company and its employees have enjoyed their time at Waterfront Plaza, formerly known as Restaurant Row, but are moving because "we need more space because we are growing," said Dr. Stephen Holmes, medical director.
The center has one MRI unit and is adding a second, so "we need space for two MRIs and other equipment."
The business will move into the building in phases, Holmes said.
Hawaii Advanced Imaging "will wonderfully complement Hale Pawaa’s current and future tenants," said Amy Poley, vice president of real estate investments for Tennessee-based Healthcare Realty Trust Inc., the building’s developer and owner.
Other first-floor businesses include Mina Pharmacy, Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii and a Healthcare Realty building management office.
Other physicians and specialists have opened practices in the 124,000-square-foot building, including Dr. Shim Ching, who does business as Asia Pacific Plastic Surgery Inc.; plastic surgeon Dr. Larry Schlesinger, who does business as Oahu Plastic Surgery Center and Mommy Makeover Institute of Hawaii; Dr. Shanon Chang Eaton; internal medicine practice Marsh & Murakami, M.D.s Inc.; Pacific Cardiology LLC; and optometrists including Dr. Michael Wong, who does business as Kaimuki Eyecare, and Dr. Reid Saito.
Dentist Dr. Michael Uyehara, the Fertility Institute of Hawaii and Pulelehua Skin Care Aesthetics also are tenants in the building.
