>> Nevada sophomore Chelsie Hata (Moanalua ’10) was named to the National Rifle Association All-America rifle team on Sunday. Hata helped the Wolf Pack finish eighth at the NCAA championships that ended Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.
BASEBALL
>> Kansas freshman pitcher Robert Kahana (Campbell ’11) earned his second win of the season, tossing five scoreless innings in a 3-1 victory over Stony Brook in the Golden Gopher Baseball Classic on Friday. Kahana allowed two hits and four walks with two strikeouts. Second baseman Kaiana Eldredge (Punahou ’10) went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and outfielder Michael Suiter (Punahou ’11) drove in a run in a 9-4 win over host Minnesota on Saturday to help the Jayhawks (8-7) finish the tournament 2-1.
>> LMU centerfielder Zac Fujimoto (Maryknoll ’08) hit leadoff and went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and reached base twice on catcher’s interference as the Lions split a doubleheader against Texas on Saturday.
>> Long Beach State catcher Royce Murai (Pearl City ’10) scored a run, stole a base and drove in a run in a 7-3 victory over Arizona State on Saturday.
>> Oregon State freshman left-hander Carlos Rodriguez (‘Iolani ’11) allowed one hit over three scoreless innings, walking four and striking out two in an 11-7 victory over Oklahoma on Sunday in the Nike College Showcase.
>> San Jose State freshman Kalei Contrades (Saint Louis ’11) pitched a scoreless inning in an 8-4 win over Lehigh, allowing one hit and two walks in the Spartans’ opening game of the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament on Thursday. Contrades started in left field and went 1-for-4 with an RBI in a 6-5 win over Santa Clara on Sunday to help the Spartans finish the tournament 4-0.
>> UNLV shortstop Danny Higa (Saint Louis ’08) went 2-for-10 with a double, two walks, two runs and three RBIs as the Rebels took two of three games against Washington State over the weekend.
>> Cal State Northridge reliever Harley Holt (Kamehameha ’10) finished off a 12-5 victory over Indiana on Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings with no walks and a strikeout.
>> Portland junior right-hander J.R. Bunda (‘Iolani ’09) tossed 12⁄3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts in a 6-2 win over Air Force on Saturday.
>> San Francisco freshman left-hander Sheldon Lee (‘Iolani ’10) pitched a scoreless seventh inning with a walk and a strikeout in a 6-2 loss to Fresno State on Friday.
>> Pacific (Ore.) junior outfielder Nick Tasaka (Mid-Pacific ’09) hit a three-run homer in a 6-5 loss to George Fox in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. Bruins junior Todd Nagamine (Mid-Pacific ’09) hit leadoff and had a walk, RBI and scored once. Boxers junior Rob Dittrick (Mid-Pacific ’09) earned a complete-game victory in the opener, allowing one run on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in a 7-1 win to improve his record to 3-1 for the season.
>> Menlo (Calif.) junior Kaimi Haina (Waipahu ’09) scored a run in both games of a doubleheader against Concordia (Ore.) on Saturday, hitting a pinch-hit double in a 9-5 loss in the second game.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
>> UNLV senior Jamie Smith (‘Iolani ’08) was the recipient of the Lady Rebel award at the team’s annual banquet on Sunday. Smith is the school’s and Mountain West Conference all-time leader in rebounds and also surpassed 1,000 points in her career. UNLV will play at Saint Mary’s on Thursday in the opening round of the WNIT tournament.
>> Utah guard Iwalani Rodrigues (Kalani ’08) had two points, six rebounds and an assist in a 55-41 loss to Colorado last Wednesday in the opening round of the Pac-12 tournament. The Utes will play Utah State in the first round of the WNIT tournament on Thursday.
>> Cal State Northridge junior forward Violet Alama (Kalani ’09) had six points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal in a 57-52 loss to Long Beach State in the quarterfinals of the Big West tournament. The Matadors will play San Diego in the first round of the WNIT tournament on Friday.
WOMEN’S GOLF
>> Santa Clara senior Tamara Surtees (Hawaii Prep ’08) closed with a 9-over 81 to finish in a tie for 15th place at the Fresno State Lexus Classic that ended on Tuesday. Surtees shot even par in the opening round and finished 13 over for the tournament, 14 shots behind the winner. She finished tied with Portland State junior Britney Yada (Waiakea ’09), who closed with an even-par 72. Boise State junior Hailey Young (Mid-Pacific ’09) finished in a tie for 20th place at 14 over, and San Francisco freshman Michelle Condry (Punahou ’11) finished tied for 47th at 21 over.
>> James Madison senior Nicole Sakamoto (Kalani ’08) finished in a tie for 27th place at the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational that ended on Sunday, shooting a 1-over 73 in the final round. Sakamoto finished at 11-over 226 for the tournament, 12 shots behind the winner.
MEN’S TENNIS
>> Oberlin (Ohio) College sophomore Logan Chun (‘Iolani ’10) won matches at No. 2 doubles and No. 1 singles, helping the Yeomen defeat Grove City College on Saturday.
WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD
>> Lipscomb (Tenn.) sophomore Kristin Ali Keith (Mililani ’10) finished 21st in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 36.12 seconds and was 26th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:11.01 at the Birmingham Southern Invitational on Saturday.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
>> Grand View (Iowa) freshman Lawrence Villafania (Leilehua ’08) hit .261 with a match-high 11 kills and an ace and setter Kyle Hanagami (Waiakea ’11) had 27 assists in a three-set loss to Park University last Wednesday. Outside Rhett Kane (Kamehameha ’11) added four kills, two digs and an ace and Shaun Biseen (Kamehameha ’11) had two digs for the Vikings.
>> Stanford outside hitter Brad Lawson (‘Iolani ’08) hit .239 with 17 kills, five digs and three block assists and libero Erik Shoji (Punahou ’08) had seven digs in a four-set loss to Hawaii last Wednesday.
>> Brigham Young senior Futi Tavana (Kauai ’05) set the school’s all-time blocks record in the rally-scoring era when he recorded his 539th in the third set of a sweep of Pacific (Calif.) on Friday. Tavana finished with eight blocks in the match and hit .500 with five kills and three more blocks in another three-game sweep of the Tigers on Saturday.
>> Southern California freshman setter Micah Christenson (Kamehameha ’11) had a match-high 31 digs, nine assists and six blocks in a three-set sweep of Penn State on Friday. Libero Henry Cassiday (Punahou ’10) added six digs and three assists and junior outside Maddison McKibbin (Punahou ’09) had seven kills, seven digs and two blocks for the Trojans.
>> Long Beach State sophomore outside hitter Taylor Crabb (Punahou ’10) hit .429 with 13 kills, six digs and two block assists in a four-set loss to Lewis on Saturday.
>> Pepperdine freshman Josh Taylor (Punahou ’11) had 12 kills, five digs, two blocks and an assist in a five-set victory over Penn State on Thursday.
>> New Jersey Institute of Technology setter Matthew Lui (Hawaii Baptist ’09) had a team-high 26 assists, four digs and an ace, and libero Brady Smith (Waiakea ’09) added seven digs and six assists in a four-set win over Princeton on Friday.
WOMEN’S WRESTLING
>> Pacific (Ore.) sophomore Andrina Ramos (Kahuku ’09) and freshman Jordyn Lee (Castle ’11) won national titles at the NCWA national meet that finished on Saturday. Ramos won two of three matches by pin to win the national title at 112 pounds, while Lee won by pin in under 2 minutes to claim the national title at 105 pounds. Megan Chun (St. Andrew’s Priory ’10) came in second at 105 pounds, and freshman Rustee-Ann Johansen (Kamehameha-Hawaii ’11) finished runner-up at 130 pounds to earn All-American distinction. Sophomore Jodi Ozaki (Kealakehe ’10) placed fourth at 121 pounds as they all helped the Boxers finish second as a team.
