A lot has changed since "The Devil Wears Prada" hit the big screen in 2006. In the film, Meryl Streep, as editrix Miranda Priestly, snaps at an assistant who doesn’t take fashion seriously enough. Priestly dresses down the young woman, who is wearing "a lumpy blue sweater," in a snarky tirade about how a 2002 Oscar de la Renta collection of cerulean gowns "filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic ‘Casual Corner’ where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin."
Today, we live with no filters and the trickle-down effect is a becoming a thing of the past. Through the magic of blogs, live-streaming videos, Twitter streams and Pinterest boards, anyone remotely interested in fashion gets an eyeful of the next season’s looks and trends at the same moment as the most influential editors, buyers and writers attending global Fashion Week events.

The craving for certain colors and styles is immediate. What that means six months later is that whether you’re a luxury or bargain hunter or shop at a level in between, you’ll see all your favorite trends reflected at prices to suit varied budgets.
Key trends for spring 2012 include eye-popping color in all the primaries and secondaries, tangerines and neon brights; graphic, floral and tribal prints on tops and bottoms; clutches in place of handbags; and fancy pants boasting both color and prints.
Spring styles are transportive, with designers imagining our lives at leisure. Look for flowing maxi gowns, breezy tunics and capris paired with pretty knit sweaters or cropped jackets.
In footwear, sexy platform pumps and colorful wedges rule the season.
Here’s what different retailers are showing at prices high to low.
Neiman Marcus
The luxury retailer is inviting shoppers to rediscover prints, whether in soft, muted florals or graphic renderings of African motifs and Art Deco lines for timeless global glamor, finished with bold dramatic earrings.
Yellow, once an accent color, is a new neutral, paired with whites, blues and pinks in a color scale ranging from soft and pale to bold and bright fuchsia.
With all that, silver is spring’s great equalizer for day and night in accessories ranging from footwear to jewels and modern metallic clutches.
Macy’s
The retailer is telling two stories for spring, one is "Graphic Dynamic," a play of graphic patterns ranging from stripes, dots and color blocking, with primary colors playing a major role when mixed with black and white.
The second is "Garden Party," with dresses and separates exuding the ambience of a picnic in an English garden or a casual country club party. Silhouettes ranging from romantic to prim and preppy are adorned with rustic field flowers and refined botanical imagery. Colors range from bold to sensuous with pastel palettes reminiscent of classical masters.
Old Navy
All the colors of Easter are on display, suitable for girly girls who flock to dresses, or those who prefer to live in pants.
The latter are invited to take a break from basic blue denim with Pop Pants denim capris or Rock Star skinny jeans that come in coral, turquoise, vibrant pink and bright green. The retailer is pairing its bright neons and colors with neutral tans and whites.
Meanwhile, dress lovers will find it easy to slip into spring’s floral themes with a selection of flirty print dresses in feminine knee-skimming to maxi lengths.
