There were no arrests or calls for either lifeguards or ambulance services at this year’s Floatopia Hawaii event as of early Saturday evening, but there was a change of venue.
After being met by numerous Honolulu police officers at the site of last year’s event at Magic Island, the mass of loosely organized spring break partiers headed down several miles to Kaimana Beach at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki.
They were followed by police officers assigned specifically to monitor the event. Checks with the Honolulu Police Department Waikiki substation, the city Department of Emergency Services and Ocean Safety Division reported no problems associated with the event. An unknown number of citations were issued, police said.
At least one police officer estimated a crowd of about 500 people. Last year, there were an estimated 1,000 partiers and several calls for emergency services to assist people who passed out from drunkenness.
