Man’s body found at base of Lanai cliff
A Hana, Maui, man suffered fatal injuries over the weekend in a 100-foot fall on Lanai, according to Maui police.
Authorities identified the man as 22-year-old Zachary Moloney.
Maui police say he was camping with friends in an area near Shark’s Bay by Sweetheart Rock on the south side of Lanai. Friends who were on the camping trip reported last seeing Moloney at about 11 p.m. Saturday, according to Maui Police Lt. Wayne Ibarra.
At about 7:20 a.m. Sunday, Moloney’s friends went looking for him and found his body at the base of a 100-foot cliff at Shark’s Bay, said Ibarra. Because of the difficulty ground crews had in reaching the area, police called the Maui Fire Department’s Air-1 helicopter to recover the body.
There was no foul play suspected, and the case has been classified as a miscellaneous accident.
