Secured Gold Buyers, which purchases gold and other precious metals, has opened three new stores on Oahu.
The new sites are the chain’s flagship store in Honolulu, 1409 Kapiolani Blvd.; as well as at Waimalu Shopping Center, 98-1277 Kaahumanu St., in Aiea; and the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center, 377 Keahole St., in Hawaii Kai.
Gold, which reached an all-time high of just more than $1,900 an ounce in August, closed Monday at $1,685.60 on the Comex in New York. The price has gained 7.6 percent this year. Gold, which has surged in recent years, was just $255 an ounce in 1999.
Secured Gold Buyers, which has been coming to Hawaii since about 2008, began holding gold-buying events at the Ala Moana Hotel before opening a store at Ward Warehouse in 2009. The company said it decided to close its Ward Warehouse location this month and open the three new stores to provide easier access for its customers.
