Lecture to cover property taxes during royal era
Thomas A. Woods, executive director of Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives, will give a lecture on Hawaiian kingdom property taxes from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the West Hawaii Civic Center, at the corner of Kealakehe Parkway and Ane Keohokalole Highway.
This is the third lecture in Kona Historical Society’s free monthly Hanohano o Kona/ Honoring Kona Lecture Series, held in conjunction with the Hawaii County Mayor’s Office.
Woods said in a news release that kingdom property taxes and the policies that brought them about were "both a reflection of broader social changes occurring in Hawaii and a tool to create further change and promote stability at the same time."
