HPU softball dominates Dominican
Melissa Kirby pitched a two-hitter as Hawaii Pacific beat Dominican 9-0 on Thursday to sweep a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader at Turlock, Calif.
Chante Tesoro batted 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, and Keila Elderts went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs for the Sea Warriors.
In the first game, Breanne Patton pitched a one-hitter with one walk and seven strikeouts in HPU’s 8-0 victory.
Patton and Dorian Acierto each drove in two runs for the Sea Warriors, and Celina Garces scored twice.
Both games were shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule.
HPU is 20-12 and 14-8; Dominican is 2-25 and 0-14.
Cal Baptist batters Hilo in baseball 24-2
Matt Marnati batted 3-for-4 with five RBIs and California Baptist scored nine runs in the first inning in a 24-2 rout of Hawaii-Hilo on Thursday at Riverside, Calif.
Cal Baptist had 28 hits with six players driving in two runs. The first nine batters scored for the Lancers.
Johnathan James went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Vulcans.
Cal Baptist, which swept the four-game Pacific West Conference series, improved to 29-6 and 24-4; Hilo dropped to 6-27 and 3-21.
Florida State buries UH in sand volleyball
The Florida State sand volleyball team beat Hawaii 4-1 and 4-1 on Thursday at Tallahassee, Fla.
Hawaii’s Emily Hartong and Elizabeth Stoltzman beat Aurora Newgard and Brittany Tiegs in Match 1 by the scores of 17-21, 21-17, 15-12.
In Match 2, Hawaii’s Jane Croson and Ashley Lee beat Newgard and Tiegs 21-18, 21-19.
Florida State improved to 11-0; Hawaii dropped to 1-2.
