New farm fair logo in students’ hands
Hawaii high school students are invited to create a logo for the 50th Hawaii State Farm Fair.
The Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation is looking for the best logo design to symbolize Oahu’s long-standing family and agricultural event, to be held July 7 and 8 at Kualoa Ranch.
The winning logo will be on all farm fair promotional materials, including T-shirts and other merchandise.
Entries will be judged on creativity and originality, as well as how well they promote different aspects of the fair, including local agriculture, the 50th anniversary, the 4-H livestock show, farm animals and family fun.
The winner receives a family pass to the farm fair and a family pass to Kualoa Ranch. The winner will also be featured in the bureau’s Ag Hawaii magazine.
Logos should be appropriate for black and white or color usage, at least 300 dpi and preferably in AI file format (though EPS, JPG and TIFF are also welcome). Entrants must include their full name, grade, high school, home address, phone number and email address.
Entries can be submitted by email to info@hfbf.org. Submission deadline is 4 p.m. April 9. Call 848-2074 for more information.
Seventh ‘Wimpy Kid’ due in November
NEW YORK» The seventh "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" novel from author Jeff Kinney is coming out in November.
The first six books have sold more than 75 million copies worldwide even though they remain available in paper only.
Disney Jr. is now on air nationwide
Disney has launched Disney Jr., a network that runs a 24-hour format for young children (Oceanic digital channel 429). Shows include newcomer "Doc McStuffins" and popular Disney fare such as "Jake and the Never Land Pirates."
General manager Nancy Kanter said she thinks the channel will succeed despite the increase in children’s programming on other networks.
"(The shows feature) character-driven storytelling and wish fulfillment — the kind of feeling you get when you walk through the gates of Disney World or Disneyland," she said.
