DFS Galleria Waikiki and students in the Apparel Product Design and Merchandising program at the University of Hawaii will present “Inspired by Nature,” a beauty and fashion collaboration event from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday at DFS Galleria, at the corner of Kalakaua and Royal Hawaiian avenues.
Students will be working on a floral styling exhibition from 2:30 to 4 p.m., using fresh flowers to create a floral garment for competition from 4 to 6 p.m.
The “Inspired by Nature Fashion Show” will take place at 7 p.m., with garments created from raw silk textiles donated by internationally renowned textile artist Akihiko Izukura.
Based on Izukura’s work with natural dyes, each student dyed fabric using local natural dyes from the lipstick tree, red dirt and turmeric. The senior designers also applied Izukura’s philosophy of “zero waste” when constructing their garments.
The evening will close with a “Beauty After Dark Party.”
Admission to the event is free, and four hours of validated parking is available at the Waikiki Trade Center with any DFS purchase.
