UH softball game at BYU canceled
The University of Hawaii softball team’s scheduled opener of a three-game Western Athletic Conference series at Brigham Young was canceled Friday due to unplayable field conditions resulting from inclement weather.
Snow in Provo, Utah, led to the game being called off and it will not be made up.
The No. 15/19 Rainbow Wahine (31-3, 5-1 WAC) and Cougars (23-10, 3-2) will play a doubleheader today starting at 9:30 a.m. Hawaii time, weather permitting. Both games will be televised on BYUtv (Oceanic Ch. 409).
UH entered the series with a six-game winning streak and in first place in the WAC. BYU began the week tied for third in the conference and has won its past 27 games at Gail Miller Field. The Cougars are 8-0 at home this season.
Sea Warriors get past Vulcans in baseball
Michael Murray limited UH-Hilo to two hits over eight innings and Hawaii Pacific beat the Vulcans 6-1 in a baseball game in Hilo on Friday.
Murray, who improved to 6-2, struck out only two batters and walked five, but got 17 fly-ball outs.
Troy Ajer provided the offense for the Sea Warriors, collecting a pair of hits and driving in two runs. Dane Kinoshita took the loss for the Vulcans.
The teams wrap up the series with a doubleheader, both games scheduled for seven innings, beginning at 11 a.m. today at Wong Stadium.
UH women whip Utah State in tennis
The Hawaii women’s tennis team swept Utah State 6-0 in a rain-shortened match on Friday at Kapiolani Park.
Barbara Pinterova, Katarina Poljakova, Jamie Pawid, Martina Kostalova, Xenia Suworowa and Kelsey Daguio all won their singles matches for the Rainbow Wahine, who play their final home match Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at the UH tennis courts against San Jose State.
HPU upsets Barry in men’s tennis
Georgi Yordanov and Patric Guenther won their matches late to lead the Hawaii Pacific men’s tennis team over No. 3 Barry 5-4 in Pensacola, Fla., on Friday.
Hawaii Pacific won two of the three doubles matches to begin the contest.
The Sea Warriors (13-3) have won seven matches in a row and play No. 5 Valdosta State on Saturday.
UH-Hilo trounces BYUH in softball
Aisha Sueda and Nicole Alconcel each hit home runs and Jessica Pepin pitched five shutout innings as the UH-Hilo softball team beat Brigham Young-Hawaii 14-0 on Saturday in Laie.
The Vulcans improved to 17-17, 11-10 in the PacWest while the Seasiders dropped to 10-13 and 5-12.
