Diving accident victim was from Waianae
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified a 28-year-old man who died after a diving incident Thursday night as Harvin Hetipak of Waianae.
Police said Hetipak was diving off Maunalahilahi Beach Park in Makaha about 10:40 p.m. when he began struggling and called out to a dive partner. By the time bystanders got to him, Hetipak was floating on his back without a mask and unresponsive.
Bystanders pulled him to shore, and paramedics took him to Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, where he died at 11:15 p.m.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
Motocross crash leaves man critically hurt
A man in his 40s was critically injured Saturday in a motorcycle crash at the Kahuku Motocross Track.
Paramedics were dispatched at 4:02 p.m. and took the man to a hospital in critical condition, an Emergency Medical Services supervisor said.
Man accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend
A 29-year-old man was arrested Saturday after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home and assaulting her in Manoa.
Police said the 33-year-old woman was awakened about 2:20 a.m. by the sound of breaking glass. When she went to investigate, she found her ex-boyfriend in her apartment, where he allegedly began to assault her.
Neighbors who heard the breaking glass and assault called police, then held the man until officers arrived.
Police arrested the man, who has no local address, for investigation of first-degree burglary.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Pipe used in alleged attack on boyfriend
A 39-year-old man attacked his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend with a metal pipe Friday night in Waianae, police said.
The man attacked the 21-year-old man as the younger man sat in his vehicle about 8 p.m. The victim was able to escape from the passenger side door and call police.
Officers found the alleged assailant at his home nearby and arrested him for investigation of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, a protective order violation, and on an outstanding warrant. The younger man refused medical treatment for minor injuries.
