HPU’s Murray earns PacWest award
Hawaii Pacific junior hurler Michael Murray was chosen the PacWest Pitcher of the Week for April 2-8. The right-hander pitched two-hit ball and struck out two through eight innings in a 6-1 win over Hawaii-Hilo last Friday.

» John Albert, Hawaii Pacific: The freshman right-hander allowed one earned run over six innings in a 2-1 win over Hawaii-Hilo on Saturday.
» Troy Ajer, Hawaii Pacific: The senior left-handed-hitting outfielder went 5-for-10 with four RBIs to help the Sea Warriors to a 2-1 weekend series victory over UHH.
» Jonathan James, Hawaii-Hilo: The junior infielder went 5-for-13 with three RBIs and an on-base percentage of .429 in four games.
» Derek Nakasato, Hawaii Pacific: The freshman outfielder batted 5-for-8 with three runs scored while slugging .750 in the series against UHH.
» Tyler Nitahara, Hawaii-Hilo: The junior catcher went 4-for-7, slugged .714 and had an on-base percentage of .727 last week.
SOFTBALL
UHH sweeps Chaminade in softball
Aisha Sueda went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs to lead Hawaii-Hilo to a 7-0 victory over Chaminade to finish off a softball doubleheader sweep Monday at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Jessica Pepin was the winning pitcher with a four-hitter.
Nicole Alconcel drove in three runs to power the Vulcans to a 4-1 win in the first game.
Amber Waracka pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts for UHH (20-18, 14-11).
Dawn Dela Cruz had a single in each game for the Silverswords (14-23, 8-16).
Hawaii-Hilo pitcher Pepin earns honor
Hawaii-Hilo senior pitcher Jessica Pepin was selected the conference’s pitcher of the week. Pepin posted a 2-0 record for the week, winning as a starter and reliever. She beat BYUH 14-0 on April 6 and earned a 7-6 win in relief the next day at Hawaii Pacific. Her ERA was 0.00 in 10 1/3 innings.

» Tiffanee Frampton, Brigham Young-Hawaii: The junior pitcher/third baseman went 4-for-9 with five RBIs and an .889 slugging percentage. She also was 1-0 as a pitcher, beating Chaminade 7-0 in a seven-inning, complete-game victory in which she struck out four.
TENNIS
BYUH headlines tennis field
Defending PacWest champion Brigham Young-Hawaii, the top-ranked team in Division II, heads the eight-team field for the women’s tennis tournament, April 19-21 in San Rafael, Calif.
Joining the Seasiders are last year’s tourney runner-up Hawaii Pacific, Chaminade, Hawaii-Hilo, Grand Canyon, Academy of Art, Dixie State and Dominican. Seedings will be released later this month.
Play at the Marine Tennis Club starts on the 19th with quarterfinals.
The Seasiders, who have won nine national titles and have a 482-8 dual-match record in the past 16 seasons, are 21-0 this season.
The field for the eight-team Pacific West Conference women’s tennis championships, which start April 19 in San Rafael, Calif., will feature all four teams from Hawaii and four of the five mainland schools.
» The HPU men’s tennis team lost its regular-season finale on Sunday against second-ranked West Florida 8-1. HPU, ranked 14th in the nation and first in the region, is now 14-4.
