Kaiwi Channel solo canoe race Sunday
More than 100 paddlers from seven countries will compete in the Steinlager Kaiwi Channel OC-1 Solo World Championships on Sunday.
The 32-mile canoe race will start at about 9 a.m. at Kaluakoi Beach on Molokai and will end at around 12:30 p.m. at Koko Marina in Hawaii Kai.
Competing among the men will be defending champion Kai Bartlett, 2011 runner-up Danny Ching of California, seven-time world champion Karel Tresnak Jr., Jimmy Austin and Pat Dolan. Female competitors include defending champion Lauren Bartlett, 2011 runner-up Rachel Brunstch, Lindsay Shank, Lori Nakamura and Noelani Auger.
Ocean Expo at Blaisdell
The fourth Hawaii Ocean Expo, which includes a boat show, shoreline fishing tournament and seafood preparation demonstrations, is scheduled for April 21 and 22 at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall.
General admission is $7, $3 for children 6-12 and free for children 5 and under.
The expo runs from 9 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on the 21st, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 22nd.
The event also will have watersports gear for sale, including kayaks, fishing equipment and apparel.
