3 cheers for the HPU cheerleaders
Last month we gave a shout out to two pairs of University of Hawaii cheerleaders who had placed first and second, respectively, in the USA Collegiate Partner Stunt Championship, in Anaheim, Calif.
This time we congratulate both the "large" and "small" co-ed cheer teams of Hawaii Pacific University, which placed first in their categories at the National Cheerleaders Association Championships, in Daytona Beach, Fla. The event featured more than 5,000 student athletes and is the largest college cheer and dance championship in the world.
For HPU’s large team, the victory was its 10th in a row.

Help gather food for the Foodbank
Want a job you can sink your teeth into? How about one that gives other people the nourishment they desperately need?
The Hawaii Foodbank is still looking for troops to fill its volunteer duties in its annual food drive, set for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
You’ve seen these people (on Saturday, it’ll be tough to miss them): They’re the ones waving signs, holding out fish nets for cash donations, collecting canned goods, sorting it all for later distribution … the list goes on.
The nonprofit is making it as easy as possible for people to sign on, by placing its application online (hawaiifoodbank.org/page9.aspx) for download.
That won’t fit everyone’s schedule, so it’s even easier to at least contribute something to the drive. The list of collection/drop-off sites (town, Mililani, Kaneohe, Pearl City) is online, too.
