UHH and Dixie State split in baseball
Johnathan James had three hits and Joshua Wong drove in three runs to lead Hawaii-Hilo to a 6-3 victory in over Dixie State (Utah) in the first game of a doubleheader split on Tuesday at Wong Stadium.
Jeremy Dela Cruz pitched seven innings, scattering nine hits to improve to 3-0 for the Vulcans (12-32, 9-26 Pacific West Conference).
Cedric Johnson went 3-for-4 for the Red Storm (25-13, 21-11).
In the second game, Tyler Slesk doubled and drove in a run to lead Dixie State to a 4-2 win.
Wong had two of UHH’s six hits in the second game.
Hawaii-Hilo’s Hall ties for second
Hawaii-Hilo’s Jamie Hall shot a final-round 73 to finish tied for second in the Stanislaus Invitational golf tournament at Turlock Golf and Country Club in Turlock, Calif., on Tuesday.
Hall, with a 3-under 213, was four strokes behind medalist Trevor Blair of host and tournament winner Cal State Stanislaus. Blair shot a 6-under 66 in the final round.
The Vulcans finished the team standings ninth place out of 20.
29 from UH make all-academic teams
Davis Rozitis of the Hawaii men’s basketball team and four from the Rainbow Wahine hoops team — Kamilah Jackson, Sydney Haydel, Courtney Gaddis and Rebecca Dew — were chosen to the Western Athletic Conference All-Academic teams, the league announced Tuesday.
Twenty-nine UH winter sports athletes were all-academic. A complete list is elsewhere on this Scoreboard page.
