Scolari in lead at league championships
Brigham Young-Hawaii’s Jon Scolari shot rounds of 3-under 69 and 2-under 70 on Monday to take the lead heading into today’s final round of the Pacific West Conference championships at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course on Hawaii island.
Scolari, who is at 5-under 139, leads the field by three shots. Despite Scolari’s day, the Seasiders sit in sixth place out of 10 teams.
Hawaii-Hilo, led by Chris Shimomura’s rounds of 76 and 68 (even par 144, good enough for eighth place), is in second place.
The Vulcans (581)trail first-place Grand Canyon (572) by nine strokes.
Hawaii Pacific’s Ian Boat is in sixth place after a 74 and a 69 (1-under 143). The Sea Warriors are in fifth place.
Chaminade is in 10th place.
Vulcans host scholarship tournament
Entries are open for the Vulcan Athletic Scholarship Endowment Benefit tournament, which will be held June 15 at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course.
The fee for the two-person modified scramble includes greens fees, cart, dinner and prizes. The cost is $200 per person or $400 per team.

Baseball honor roll
Jonathan James, UHH: The junior third baseman out of Kamehameha hit .538 (7-for-13) with three RBIs and two runs scored as the Vulcans went 2-2 against Dixie State.
Bryan Raines, UHH: The senior pitcher out of Castle scattered nine hits, walking three and striking out three over nine innings in a 5-1 complete-game victory over the Red Storm.
