Waimea, Kapaa score 43 runs
Waimea clinched the Kauai Interscholastic Federation softball title last week, but it was the final score against Kapaa that was more surprising.
The Menehunes won 29-14 at Kapaa’s home field, with all 43 runs scored in just five innings. Waimea, ranked No. 7 in today’s Star-Advertiser Softball Top 10, scored 16 runs in the second inning.
Molokai had its share of double-digit scoring games on both the winning and losing ends. The 19-18 battle between Molokai and St. Anthony on March 31, won by the Farmers, is the highest run total by a losing team this spring.
Anuenue has scored 13 and 14 runs in losses.
Kaumatule is "ready"
Tom Lemming had just gotten off the plane from Chicago when he saw dozens of local high school football players, all college prospects.
He’s optimistic about all of them, but one sophomore caught his attention a little more: Punahou’s 6-foot-8 lineman, Canton Kaumatule.
"He’s already a (high school) All-American. He looks like he’s ready for Division I ball now," Lemming said.
