The Honolulu Police Department and CrimeStoppers are asking for the public’s help in finding James D. Walters III, who is wanted for questioning in connection with armed robberies in Waikiki and Lanikai.
Police said Walters, 31, is armed with both a handgun and long gun and considered dangerous. He is driving a 2006 black Chevy Silverado pickup with a crew cab, silver construction racks and the license plate PFV803.
He is 5 feet 11 inches tall, about 180 pounds, with dirty blond hair and blue eyes. He might have a scruffy beard.
Maj. Richard Robinson, head of HPD’s Criminal Investigations Division, said a man approached a family of four visitors walking on the Ala Wai Canal bridge at Ala Moana Boulevard at about 10 p.m. Friday, brandished a handgun and demanded their property.
At about 12:45 p.m. Sunday, a victim saw an unknown man in the victim’s parked vehicle on Onekea Drive in the Lanikai section of Kailua. When the victim confronted the man, the robber threatened the victim with a handgun and fled.
Robinson would not say what, if anything, was taken in either case.
Police are "looking into the possibility" that the same man is tied to other recent Windward-area crimes.
At about 5 p.m. April 18, a woman, 39, reported being kidnapped and robbed by a man who got into her car at Kailua Beach Park and ordered her to drive. He fled after taking her purse, police said.
At about 7 p.m. Sunday, the L&M fast-food plate lunch restaurant in Kaneohe was robbed by a man carrying a rifle.
Walters, who has a Windward address, does not have a criminal record, Robinson said.
