Take in free talks on Civil War movie
Local historians Justin Vance and Anita Manning and film producers Nanette Napoleon and Todd Ocvirk will be giving two free lectures on "The Hawaii Sons of the Civil War," a documentary in production about the more than 200 men from Hawaii who fought in the American Civil War.
A film trailer will be shown, followed by questions and answers. The first event, sponsored by the Hawaii Civil War Round Table, is 6 p.m. Tuesday at the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum at Pearl Harbor.
The second, sponsored by the Honolulu Genealogy Society, is 9 a.m. May 12 at Manoa Gardens Community Center, 2790-9 Kahaloa Drive.

Race for the Cure begins with high tea
A "Hats Off!" tea on May 19 for the Hawaii Affiliate of Susan G. Komen will be the kickoff event for this year’s Race for the Cure.
The event, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Waioli Tea Room in Manoa, will feature "high tea," an on-site hat-making contest, a silent auction, entertainment and more. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by calling 754-6659 or282-1728. For details, visit www.komenhawaii.org.
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is scheduled for Oct. 21 at Kapiolani Park. It celebrates breast cancer survivors and honors those who died from the disease.
