The much-anticipated return of Alex O’Loughlin to "Hawaii Five-0" was greeted with fan enthusiasm, but that wasn’t enough to lift the show to ratings supremacy Monday night, according to Nielsen numbers released by CBS.
"Five-0" drew 9.39 million viewers to an episode that featured lots of action and lots of skin — Wo Fat fighting McGarrett and Kono taking a shower with a yakuza boss.
Last week "Five-0" attracted 10.91 million viewers in a so-called "crossover episode" that featured "NCIS: Los Angeles" stars LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell. The next night, "Five-0" stars Scott Caan and Daniel Dae Kim appeared on "NCIS."
O’Loughlin was not in either of the two crossover episodes, nor was he in the previous "Five-0" episode, which aired April 9. He left the show in March for treatment for his use of prescription pain medication due to a shoulder injury.
On Monday the ABC show "Castle" won the hour with 12.36 million viewers. NBC’s "Smash" drew 5.73 million.
Among adults 18-49, "Five-0" drew 2.3 percent of the total viewing audience and 6 percent of those watching TV at the time, the network said.
