HawaiiNewsNow RAW: Possible suspect in sexual assault of three Hawaii girls »
Detectives in southern Arizona have identified a man sought for questioning in connection with the assault of three girls from Hawaii who were visiting their grandparents in the Tuscon area.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department released surveillance photos and video of a man matching the description of a person called an "investigative lead" at a nearby convenience store and he was identified today, the department said in a news release. The department did not disclose his name.
A spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Department emphasized that the man in the photo is not a suspect.
Detectives said a 6-year-old girl from Hawaii was sexually assaulted in the bedroom of her grandmother’s house on April 30. She was one of three girls from Hawaii visiting with their mother.
The Arizona Daily Star reported that court documents state the 6-year-old girl was assaulted while she slept in a room with her two sisters. The girl was in a front bedroom with her sisters, ages 8 and 10, early in the morning when she was assaulted, according to a search warrant affidavit filed in Superior Court, the newspaper reported.
The Sheriff’s Department said the girls and their mother were visiting their grandparents in the Rincon District on East Mountain Gate Place.
One of the girls described the assailant as a dark-haired man in his 20s, wearing dark shorts, a green sleeveless shirt and dark-colored glasses.
