Car crashes into gate, gate breaks gas line
A SUV ruptured a synthetic natural gas line in a chain-reaction crash at about 11 a.m. Sunday in the Pawaa area near Keeaumoku Street.
Fire Capt. Robert Main said the vehicle hit a gate, which struck a gas meter, causing a leak on Liona Street. A fire crew shut off the gas.
A spokesman for The Gas Co. said the meter belonged to Maui Divers Jewelry. A crew replaced the meter by 2 p.m.
No one was hurt, Main said.
Small blaze damages house in Kuliouou
A fire investigator is trying to determine the cause of a small fire at a Kuliouou house Sunday that displaced a woman in her 30s.
The 2:22 p.m. fire on Kalaau Place was quickly brought down, said fire Capt. Robert Main.
About 18 firefighters contained the blaze to one of the home’s three bedrooms and had it under control by 2:33 p.m., Main said. No one was injured.
Damage was estimated at $11,000 to the structure and contents.
The American Red Cross was helping the woman.
Witnesses hold suspect in purse-snatching
Bystanders captured a 24-year-old Makiki man who police said snatched a purse from a woman at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday near Ward Entertainment Center.
Police said the man used force to take the purse from the woman, 53, who was sitting on a bench.The man tried to run, but witnesses who saw the commotion detained him until police officers arrived.
He was arrested in front of Bucca di Beppo restaurant for investigation of second-degree robbery.
Aiea men face drug charges after arrest
Two Aiea men were arrested on drug offenses after a police officer approached them as they were drinking alcohol on a sidewalk in Waimalu at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.
One of the men tried to run but was captured in front of the Waimalu Shopping Center on Kamehameha Highway. Police said the man, 30, was carrying a pipe and a plastic bag with apparent drug residue.
He was booked for investigation of failure to obey an officer and two drug offenses.
Officers arrested a 44-year-old man for investigation of possessing liquor in public and two drug counts. A third man with them was not arrested.
Teen tells police he broke into school twice
A teenage boy was arrested Saturday after confessing to break-ins at Dole Middle School in Kalihi, police said.
Police said the boy was in custody for another offense Saturday. During an interview he admitted to breaking into a classroom Feb. 17 and burglarizing a maintenance room at the school April 7.
Police said the school previously reported the incidents. The boy was booked on suspicion of second-degree burglary.
