Seagull Schools praised in capital
Seagull Schools was recognized in Washington, D.C., by first lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! child care initiative.
Seagull said in a news release its work to promote and implement the goals of Let’s Move! was cited, including its obesity prevention efforts and efforts to get children moving and eating well in the early care and education setting.
Seagull Schools was one of 20 selected for recognition. Seagull was recognized at the Let’s Move! recognition luncheon Wednesday at the Omni Shoreham Hotel.
Pearl City girl to be kids’ peace envoy
The Japan-America Society of Hawaii has announced that the Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention office in Fukuoka, Japan, selected Korie Lum of Pearl City, an 11th-grader at Moanalua High School, to serve as a peace ambassador at the 24th annual APCC in Fukuoka from July 13 to 25.
Only 30 peace ambassadors were selected worldwide for this year’s convention.
Lum originally participated as a junior ambassador to the APCC in Fukuoka in 2006 and is Bridge Club Hawaii vice president.
