Baxter wins Olukai SUP event
Maui’s Connor Baxter bested a field of some of the world’s top stand-up paddleboarders to win the elite division of Saturday’s Olukai Hoolaulea Maliko Downwind Run race.
Baxter finished the course from Maliko Bay to Kanaha Beach Park in a record 47 minutes, 27.1 seconds. Australia’s Travis Grant was second in 48:27.7 and California’s Danny Ching third in 48:38.7. Hawaii’s Andrea Moller was the top female (56:44).
In Sunday’s OC-1 event, Ching covered the same 8-mile course in 49.20, edging Grant (50:03) and Hawaii’s Jimmy Austin (50:46) for the elite title. The top female padder was Hawaii’s Rachel Bruntsch (57:25.).
The $15,000 purse included $1,500 to the male and female winners of each race.
International cricket at Kapiolani
The Honolulu Cricket Club will host its first multi-team tournament in the 100-plus-year history of the club with the inaugural Pan Pacific Cup starting Sunday.
The weeklong event at Kapiolani Park opens with host Honolulu taking on the Brookfield Brumbies of Australia at 10 a.m. The 2 p.m. match has Millbrook of New Zealand against the Vancouver Island Vagabonds of Canada.
Single matches are scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The tournament concludes Sunday with a pair of 20-over “friendlies,” the Battle of the Hemispheres has Honolulu and Canada (Northern) teaming up against New Zealand and Australia (Southern) at 10 a.m. with Honolulu taking on players from the other three teams at 2 p.m. in “Hawaii vs. The World.”

High school combines offered by PIAA
The Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance is offering combines in soccer and football for incoming freshmen through seniors between May 24 and June 16.
The inaugural soccer combine is scheduled for Thursday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex. The cost is $30, $35 the day of the combine.
The 11th PIAA football combine is May 26 at Saint Louis School, while the fifth PIAA combine on Hawaii island is June 16 at Kamehameha-Hawaii. The cost for each of the football combines is $15 in advance, $25 the day of the event.

Youth soccer teams advance
Teams from Pearl City, Honolulu and Mililani qualified for next month’s US Youth Region IV West Championships in Phoenix. The teams won their respective Hawaii state tournaments.
Advancing are five boys teams and one girls team from Pearl City’s Rush: U13, U14, U15, U16 and U18 boys, and U18 girls. Qualifying from Mililani is Abunai 95 in U17 boys.
Five girls teams from Honolulu also are advancing: Blitz Orange in U13, and Leahi’s U14, U15, U16 and U17.
Play begins June 18, with finals on June 24.
USTA offers summer tennis camps
The U.S. Tennis Association’s Hawaii Pacific Section will offer seven summer tennis camps at its Waikiki Tennis Club, in the Pacific Beach Hotel. Camps begin June 11 and are five days each, with the last July 23-27.
They are geared to kids ages 8-10 and 11-13, beginners and intermediates. Cost is $160 a week. Registration deadline is two weeks before each camp starts.
