Dolan has another shot at Olympic spot
Kailua’s Ryan Dolan will have to wait another week to find out if he is an Olympian.
Dolan and U.S. teammate Tim Hornsby failed to reach a final in the 200-meter men’s sprint kayak races at ICF Spring World Cup No. 1 on Saturday in Poznan, Poland. They will move on to next week’s World Cup No. 2 in Germany to decide who will be the Americans’ lone male sprint kayaker at this summer’s Olympics.
Dolan qualified a U.S. boat for the Games by winning a bronze medal at the Pan Am Games. Hornsby beat him at U.S. Trials last month, forcing another race to decide who will be in the boat in London.
The paddler with the highest finish at the World Cup will get the boat, but the paddler has to reach an A or B final. Dolan finished fourth in his heat to reach a semifinal, but was seventh there in 38.509 and missed advancing by one place. Hornsby was sixth in his heat, then seventh in his semifinal with a time of 38.497 — 1.024 seconds from reaching a final.
Both will race in today’s C final.
