Keiki reading program offers prizes
Kids can stay engaged in the learning process during their vacation and earn prizes in the public libraries’ summer reading program.
Registration for the free five-week programs, which run from June 4 to July 7, begins Tuesday.
Keiki from infants through grade 6 who read at least one book per week or have one book read to them will be eligible to receive a free weekly incentive. The programs will also feature storytelling guest performances, including "It’s Book Time with Ronald McDonald!" shows at 12 libraries, the "Amazing Magical Bubble Show" at four libraries and "Sing Along with Uncle Wayne (pictured at right)" events at seven libraries. Check with your local library for special events.
The summer programs are not just limited to children up to grade 6 — with the theme "Dream Big: READ!" — but to teens and adults as well. "Own the Night" for teens and "Between the Covers" for adults will cover all popular genres, and participating teens in particular could win an Apple iPod Shuffle and other prizes.
