Man’s body found on shore
Kauai police recovered the body of a 31-year-old man Sunday morning along the shoreline of Lydgate Beach Park, the department said.
Police said the body was found near the Kamalani Bridge at about 6:30 a.m.
Police do not suspect foul play.
The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, police said.
Kauai motorist is held in crash
A 23-year-old Eleele man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after he allegedly crashed his pickup truck into a utility pole on Kaumualii Highway, Kauai police said Sunday.
Police said the man was traveling west at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday near Eleele Shopping Center when he struck a utility pole on the westbound shoulder of the road.
Police said the man’s Toyota pickup rolled onto its side, and he suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Police shut down Kaumualii Highway until about 1 a.m. Sunday while utility crews fixed the pole.
Rescuers tow boat to harbor
Maui County firefighters aided a boat in trouble Saturday about a mile off Lauu Point on the southwestern tip of Molokai.
A crewman aboard the 23-foot Nicole W, out of Oahu, used a cellphone to call the Fire Department for help at about 2:23 p.m. Four men in their 20s and 30s aboard the boat said they were adrift in 6- to 10-foot seas with winds blowing about 29 to 35 mph, a Maui Fire Department spokesman said.
A rescue boat and personal watercraft reached the vessel at about 3:45 p.m. and towed it to Hale o Lono Harbor by 5:05 p.m.
