Hornsby tops Dolan for spot in Olympics
Ryan Dolan’s 2012 Olympic dream ended Sunday when U.S. kayaking teammate Tim Hornsby edged him in the B Final of the men’s K-1 200-meter race at the ICF Sprint World Cup No. 2 in Duisburg, Germany.
Dolan got a leg up on Team USA’s Olympic slot in the K-1 200 when he captured the bronze medal at the Pan Am Games. Hornsby edged him out at the U.S. Team Trials, forcing a tiebreaker at the World Cup.
Both qualified for the B Final in preliminary races. Sunday, Hornsby finished fifth in 35.992. Dolan, a 2008 Maryknoll graduate, was eighth in 36.210.
Hornsby and Carrie Johnson will be the only two U.S. sprint kayakers in London.
