If you need a little push to get back into the reading groove or just want to share the joy of books with others, there are programs and groups to help you turn the page.
Registration is under way for the Hawaii State Public Library System’s summer reading programs for kids and adults that start Monday and run through July 7. Participants who read at least one book per week are eligible to receive a free weekly reading incentive, while supplies last.
Three summer reader programs are being offered:
» "Dream Big READ!" is the theme of the program for kids, from infants to students entering grade 6, who will be encouraged "to revel in the wonders of night — dreams, lullabies, bedtime and campfire stories, as well as ghosts, nocturnal animals and star-gazing."
» Teens in grades 7 through 12 will "Own the Night" in a program that highlights mysteries, suspense and campfire stories, nocturnal animals, astronomy and careers involving night shifts. Participants can enter to win an Apple iPod Shuffle and other prizes.
» Adult patrons can get "Between the Covers" in a program meant to inspire them to experience the joy of reading and celebrate "the wonders of night" through mysteries, science fiction, adventure tales, Westerns and other genres.
