Ewa Beach man held in fatal hit-and-run
Police have arrested a suspect in the hit-and-run death of a 30-year-old Kaneohe man Saturday on Kahekili Highway.
The 31-year-old Ewa Beach man was arrested at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday at Wet ‘n’ Wild Hawaii in Kapolei. He remains in custody at the main station on suspicion of fleeing the scene of an accident, first-degree negligent homicide and first-degree terroristic threatening. Police did not say how officers found the man.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Matthew Fragas. He died of cranial cerebral injuries from the crash.
A vehicle likely traveling toward Kailua hit Fragas at 2:15 a.m. Saturday near Ahuimanu Place. He was not in a crosswalk and alcohol may have been a factor, police said. The vehicle fled the scene.
An Emergency Medical Services supervisor said Fragas was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
