Mid-Pacific’s Carlos honored by Gatorade
Mid-Pacific senior Keiki Carlos has been named the Gatorade Hawaii Softball Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Carlos helped lead the Owls to their second consecutive state Division I title early last month. She was named state tournament MVP both seasons.
Carlos, a right-hander, finished this past season with a 17-2 record, 1.11 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 114 innings. She also batted .592 with 26 RBIs and a .667 on-base percentage.
Carlos has maintained a 3.20 GPA, is active at her church, has volunteered on behalf of Mid-Pacific’s Holomua Honor Society and is a member of her school’s Spanish and Interact clubs.
The award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character.
Carlos has signed a national letter of intent with the University of Hawaii.
Shim will play for U.S. U-23 women’s team
Honolulu’s Meleana Shim, a midfielder at Santa Clara, will play with the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team at the Three Nations Tournament in Norway.
Shim, a Kamehameha Schools alum, is one of five midfielders on the 17-player roster.
Shim started all 21 matches for the Broncos this past season and tallied 12 points on four goals and four assists. She was a second-team West Coast Conference selection.
The United States will play Sweden on June 15 and Norway on June 17 and 19.
The roster consists of top college players and recent graduates who are playing in U.S. amateur leagues and semi-professional leagues around the world.
