Autopsy shows hiker died from head injury
Kauai police released preliminary autopsy results for a 30-year-old Kapaa woman who died in a fall while hiking in Kalalau.
Results indicate Rose Schlegel died from head trauma after she fell Tuesday night from a cliff near a campsite in Kalalau Valley. Police said Schlegel fell about 20 feet and landed on rocks below the cliff.
Nearby campers tried to revive her without success. A camper used his radio to call the Coast Guard, which notified the Kauai Fire Department. A fire rescue helicopter recovered Schlegel’s body the next day.
3 in stolen car face multiple charges
Three people are in custody after police stopped them Thursday night in a stolen car on the H-3 freeway Halawa offramp.
The wallet of the car’s owner, a 29-year-old woman, was found in the car.
Two of the suspects, a 30-year-old woman and a 22-year-old Nanakuli woman, were arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen car and driving without a license. The 22-year-old woman and a 50-year-old Ewa Beach man also were arrested for investigation of drug charges.
Auto dealership worker arrested for theft
A 32-year-old Waikiki man was arrested Thursday for allegedly altering a finance contract at a Waipahu car dealership he worked at so he could steal money from a cash down payment on a car sale.
Police said the theft and forgery occurred in August. The suspect was working as finance manager for the car dealership when the alleged crime occurred, police said.
Suspect in Waikiki sex assault is caught
A 37-year-old man came up from behind and groped a 31-year-old woman Thursday morning in Waikiki, police said.
The woman reported she was talking with her friends when the man sexually assaulted her at about 3:50 a.m., police said.
The man, who did not give police a local address, was arrested at the Royal Hawaiian Center, 2201 Kalakaua Ave., for investigation of first-degree sexual assault.

Convicted killer will serve at least 45 years
The Hawaii Paroling Authority has determined that a Kauai man convicted of killing his girlfriend’s father in 2000 must serve at least 45 years of his life sentence.
Matthew Blankswade pleaded no contest and was convicted in 2001 of the fatal shooting of Jeffrey Brisebois.
The Kauai prosecutor’s office said Thursday that in the early morning hours of June 26, 2000, Blankswade broke into Brisebois’ home on Powerhouse Road in Wainiha and then shot Brisebois in the head with a shotgun.
The Hawaii Paroling Authority held a hearing May 31 and issued its decision June 1, setting the minimum term.
Suspect faces several charges in robbery
Hawaii County police charged a Kailua-Kona man Thursday with three offenses in connection with a late-night robbery Tuesday in Kailua-Kona.
Carlos Garrido, 18, was charged with robbery, assault and criminal property damage. His bail was set at $28,000. He was being held at the Kona police cellblock pending his initial court appearance, scheduled for Friday.
A 20-year-old man arrested with Garrido was released from police custody Thursday afternoon, pending further investigation.
At 11:30 p.m. Tuesday a 27-year-old Kailua-Kona man was confronted by three young men who reportedly attacked him, threw him to the ground, beat him and took his backpack. The victim pulled the backpack from the vehicle in which the three were driving away.
Seventeen minutes later police found the vehicle and arrested three suspects. The third suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was released to his parents Wednesday.
