Mo-ped driver, 63, critically hurt in crash
A 63-year-old Ewa Beach man was critically injured Saturday afternoon in Kalaeloa when the mo-ped he was riding crashed into a concrete barrier.
Police said speed was a possible factor in the crash.
The man lost control of the mo-ped while heading south on Coral Sea Road, 76 feet south of San Jacinto Road, at about 1:49 p.m.
The mo-ped traveled onto the grassy shoulder and hit the concrete barrier, police said. The driver was thrown from his mo-ped and hit the barrier and the shoulder.
He was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center with head and other injuries, police said.
Crews contain 2 Oahu brush fires
Honolulu firefighters have contained two major fires.
The Kuwale fire, which started in Lualualei and ran to the back of Waianae Valley, blackening 1,200 acres, is now burning in the Waianae Forest Reserve. The state took over the firefighting Saturday.
The Piliuka Place fire, which burned 1,000 acres, was fully contained Friday, and fire crews kept watch over that blaze Saturday, taking care of small flare-ups. There is no danger to property or people, a fire official said.
