» Kids’ Workshop: Decorate "Cars" Cookies for Dad (10 a.m. Saturday): Use icings and sprinkles to "trick out" a custom cookie from Disney’s "Cars 2."
» The Grill Master: Fish & Seafood (1 p.m. June 24): Discover the secrets to cooking fish and seafood on the grill, as well as using a wooden grilling plank.
» Super-Cool Summer Treats (Noon June 30): Kids can learn how to make frosty treats such as ice cream, ice pops and snow cones.
Take lunch idea to White House
Kids and their parents can submit their most healthful lunch ideas for The Healthy Lunchtime Challenge, a national recipe contest launched by the website Epicurious, the U.S. departments of education and agriculture and First Lady Michelle Obama.
The challenge, geared toward children ages 8-12, and their parents, is seeking a lunch that is both nutritious and delicious. Entrants are encouraged to reference the USDA nutritional guidelines at ChooseMyPlate.gov while selecting their dish.

Winners will travel to the nation’s capital to attend a kids’ "state dinner" at the White House in August, where a selection of the winning healthy recipes will be served.

Lager from Kona gets gold medal
Kona Brewing Co.’s Longboard Island Lager was awarded a gold medal in the Helles Lager category in the North American Beer Awards, an annual event sanctioned by the North American Brewers Association.
Longboard Island Lager is sold in 30 states plus Hawaii.
The lager’s win marks the fourth time it has been awarded a medal from the association and the second time it received the gold medal.
Other award-winning Kona Brewing Co. beers include Wailua Wheat Ale (2011 gold, Fruit Beer category), Big Wave Golden Ale (2011 bronze, Blonde/ Golden Ale category) and Fire Rock Pale Ale (2010 silver, American Style Pale Ale category).
Tuesday market opens at KCC
The Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation launched a three-month pilot market yesterday at Kapiolani Community College. The market is held in KCC’s lower parking lot, like its popular Saturday counterpart.’
While the Saturday market draws crowds of tourists as well as residents, the Tuesday market — open from 4 to 7 p.m. — is designed to be a smaller, more leisurely experience. Call 848-2074 or visit www.hfbf.org.
