Brother Bernard Ploeger, president of Chaminade University, has been chosen to serve in Rome in July at the General Chapter meeting for the Society of Mary (Marianists), the university announced Wednesday.

General Chapter
meeting in July
The Chapter acts as the highest legislative body for the Marianists. Delegates meet once every six years to strengthen bonds between members of the Society of Mary, also known as the Marianists, and to carry out legislative and evaluative functions.
The Chapter is responsible for electing the Marianists’ General Council, including the superior general and its general assistants. The Chapter also sets objectives for the society, determines policies and sets budgetary guidelines.
"Being a delegate is a responsibility you must take seriously with duties that take precedence over other obligations," Ploeger said in a news release. "It is an opportunity to review the life and the mission of the entire Society as well as to ensure fidelity to our spirituality and charism."
The Chapter’s theme for its meeting, which runs from July 3-22, is "Deepening our Marianist Life for a Globalized Marianist Mission."
The Society of Mary is a Catholic religious order dedicated to Mary, the mother of Jesus. It was founded in France in 1817 by Blessed William Joseph Chaminade. Almost 500 Marianist brothers and priests make up the Marianist Province of the United States.
