Musicians sought for talent contest
The Outrigger Reef on the Beach is hosting its fourth annual talent search for traditional and contemporary Hawaiian musicians to perform at its poolside restaurant, the Kani Ka Pila Grille.
Current performers at the restaurant include Kaukahi, ManoaDNA, Sean Naauao, Weldon Kekauapo and Cyril Pahinui.
Those interested can submit a music sample on DVD or provide a link to a performance online to Luana Maitland, music director of Kani Ka Pila Grille.
The mailing address is Outrigger Reef on the Beach, 2169 Kalia Road, Honolulu, HI 96815; email Maitland at luana.maitland@outrigger.com.
All entries must be received between Saturday and July 18, and must include the artist or group name, contact person, and email and phone contact.
Five finalists will be announced July 25. They will then perform at the contest finals from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 18 in the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall’s Pikake Room as part of the Made in Hawaii Festival.
The winner will receive a one-month paid contract with the restaurant to perform in September.
Winners will also receive studio time at Honolulu Community College’s MELE (Music & Entertainment Learning Experience) Studios.
