Shoji, Rawson lead U.S. to volleyball title
Team USA, with Hawaii’s Kawika Shoji and Matt Rawson, won the Pan American Cup on Saturday, defeating Argentina, 29-27, 25-20, 25-11, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The U.S. went unbeaten (5-0) in the Cup.
In Friday’s semifinals, the U.S. defeated the Dominican Republic, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-27, 15-12. The final set was tied at 7. Rawson had a match-high five blocks and Shoji set Team USA to a .376 hitting percentage — 150 points higher than its opponent.
