I am writing on behalf of a significant cross-section of our community to express our support and enthusiasm for the new owner of the majority of Lanai, Ellison Lanai Island Holdings LLC.

We are optimistic and look forward to working with Larry Ellison and his team to create a strong and stable future for our island. We think there are countless opportunities that will come with the new owners, and we welcome them to Lanai.

The Ellison team has a reputation for being sharp, respectful, playing by the rules and executing its projects with class and distinction. We are also grateful for one owner. Would those who dislike the idea of one owner prefer to see the island broken up and sold in a myriad of parcels to multiple buyers, each with a different vision and no cohesive plan? We think that would forever change the allure of our beloved island.

We are made up of a hard-working group of people, dedicated to the success of Lanai, who see opportunity to create new businesses in and around our community — some related to the main engine, tourism, that currently sustains us, and some in new and exciting directions.

Cottage industries such as satellite reservations centers, options in agriculture and ranching, ocean farming, expanded eco-tourism and the film industry are just a few examples. The options are endless and now is the time for us to seize what opportunities there will be for us. We are excited to help Ellison’s Lanai Island Holdings see our full potential and help us reach these goals.

Envision a healthy and thriving town square with beautiful stores in our plantation style architecture, similar to Mike Carroll’s lovely gallery or Jenna’s Local Gentry. Thriving businesses encircling the town like the Lanai Woodworker’s Gallery and Mimi’s Salon, a school that rivals any in the nation with technology and advanced teaching practices.

Envision a thriving population of residents who can make a living and raise their children here, or stay and watch their grandchildren grow up.
